Alphabet’s Google has invested around $400 million in an AI startup Anthropic. Anthropic is working on an AI chatbot similar to OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Google and Anthropic didn’t comment on this investment but Anthropic announced its partnership with Google in which the company will use Google Cloud as its preferred cloud provider.

“We’re partnering with Google Cloud to support the next phase of Anthropic, where we’re going to deploy our AI systems to a larger set of people,” said Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei. “This partnership gives us the cloud infrastructure performance and scale we need.”

Anthropic was founded in 2021 by OpenAI’s former VP of research Dario Amodei and his sister, Daniela. Daniela worked as OpenAI’s VP of safety and policy. A few other OpenAI employees also joined the Anthropic.

Anthropic is working on a language model assistant, Claude, which has not been released to the public. It is expected to take on ChatGPT when becomes available for the general public.

Google’s partnership with Anthropic came at the time when ChatGPT has taken over the internet. Everyone is talking about ChatGPT. Microsoft also invested in OpenAI and is now working to integrate OpenAI tools into Bing and other Microsoft products.
