Activision suffered a data breach; Hackers steal games and employee data

Popular gaming company Activision suffered a data break in December. Hackers managed to steal internal data including games and employee data.

The incident was first reported by the malware research group vx-underground which published screenshots of stolen data.

Yesterday, Insider Gaming confirmed the data breach after obtaining the data stolen data.

Hackers obtained access to one of the employees’ computer using the phishing attack. The leaked employee data includes full names, emails, phone numbers, salaries, places of work, and more. Games data include plans for Modern Warfare 2’s upcoming DLC’s, Call of Duty 2023 (Codenamed Jupiter), and Call of Duty 2024.

Activision has also issued a statement:

“The security of our data is paramount, and we have comprehensive information security protocols in place to ensure its confidentiality. On December 4, 2022, our information security team swiftly addressed an SMS phishing attempt and quickly resolved it. Following a thorough investigation, we determined that no sensitive employee data, game code, or player data was accessed.”
