Microsoft has today announced its extended partnership with OpenAI multiyear, multibillion-dollar investment. The company didn’t confirm the amount it is investing in the company.

OpenAI will use the fresh funds to do independent research and develop its AI to make it even more useful and powerful. As a part of the deal, OpenAI will still remain a capped-profit company and will govern by the OpenAI non-profit. Microsoft is the key investor in OpenAI.

“We formed our partnership with OpenAI around a shared ambition to responsibly advance cutting-edge AI research and democratize AI as a new technology platform,” said Satya Nadella, Chairman and CEO, Microsoft. “In this next phase of our partnership, developers and organizations across industries will have access to the best AI infrastructure, models, and toolchain with Azure to build and run their applications.”

Microsoft invested $1 billion in OpenAI back in 2019 to jointly develop AI tech for Azure and extend AI capabilities. In return, OpenAI agreed to license some of its intellectual property to Microsoft. In 2021, Microsoft launched Azure OpenAI Service. The company is also planning to integrate ChatGPT and DALL-E 2 into Bing search.

ChatGPT has already become really popular due it its ability to write complex codes, content on any topic, lyrics, and more. If Microsoft adds it to search, it will surely improve Microsoft’s search engines.

OpenAI is now looking to make profits. This is the reason it has now decided to start offering premium subscriptions for ChatGPT. The company will also soon start offering APIs for businesses to earn more.
