Apple is reportedly working on simplifying the ‘Hey Siri’ phrase to just ‘Siri’. As of now, users need to say ‘Hey Siri’ to launch Siri on Apple devices. Bloomberg’s Mark revealed this in his latest edition of the Power On newsletter. The company has been testing this change for several months. If everything goes well, Apple could roll out the change next year.

Although it seems a small change, it actually requires a lot of AI training and underlying engineering work to roll out the change. The company is working on engineering challenges to simplify the process of activating the voice assistant. Apple wants to make sure that Siri understands the wake word in different accents and dialects before making it available to all.

Apple has been working on making Siri better over the years and has proven to be better than other voice assistants offered by rival companies.

It is worth noting that Amazon’s Alexa just requires users to say “Alexa” and it works fine. On the other hand, Google’s voice assistant requires ‘OK Google’ or ‘Hey Google’ to work.
