Xiaomi is now ready to unveil its first electric car prototype in August. Xiaomi’s founder, Lei Jun will unveil the prototype at a public event in August 2022. After the unveiling of the prototype, the company will start testing the product. Xiaomi is planning to begin mass production of its first electric car in 2024.

This electric car prototype has been designed by HVST Automobile Design, the company that designed WM Motor’s Maven concept car. Xiaomi is also looking to hire a PR director to launch a promotional campaign for the car in the coming months.

Reports claim that Lei Jun spends two-thirds of his time at Xiaomi Auto headquarters to closely monitor the progress of the EV project. Xiaomi Auto’s R&D division has more than 1,000 employees working on the EV project. The company plans to see 150,000 vehicles manufactured per year of its first EV car.

Technically, this is not the first EV from the company. It already launched the M365 electric scooter.

Back in March 2021, Xiaomi officially confirmed to enter into the electric vehicle business. The company made an initial investment of $1.5 billion and then promised to invest $10 billion over the next 10 years in its car business. It also registered Xiaomi Auto Co., Ltd in September 2021.
