Apple unveils WatchOS 9 with new features

Along with iOS 16, Apple also introduced watchOS 9 at WWDC 2022. The new smartwatch OS comes with several improvements including new watch faces, Workout app, sleep stages, and medication tracking.

WatchOS 9 comes with four new watch faces including Lunar, Playtime, Metropolitan, and Astronomy. Existing watch faces also comes with updates.

The Workout app now displays more information and metrics. It also lets users create custom workouts with custom work and rest intervals. The app also has new alerts. The Workout app supports new Multisport workout type that automatically switches between any sequence of different exercises. The app uses motion sensors to recognize movement patterns for workouts. The app will provide haptic and voice feedback to help you switch workout modes.

Apple has also improved sleep tracking and added sleep stages. The app now shows the breakdown of REM, Core, and Deep sleep in the app.

The new smartwatch OS also brings AFib history for people who’ve been diagnosed with atrial fibrillation. The software can track your heart rate for AFib to tell you how frequently your heart rhythm show signs of AFib. The app will also send you weekly notifications and detailed history that can be downloaded to share with doctors.

The watch OS 9 brings Medications that lets you manage and track your medications. It also supports schedules and reminders for Medications.

The developer beta of watchOS 9 is available starting today. The stable version will be available on compatible Apple Watch smartwatches later this year.
