Popular stock photos and videos website Getty Images has partnered with NFT ecosystem developer Candy Digital to launch its NFT marketplace. The company is entering into Photography NFTs with over 465 million images including 135 million analogue images.

Candy Digital will use Getty Images’ image portfolio to create a variety of NFT products and collections. The initial collection is expected to be launched in the coming month. These NFTs will be minted on the Palm blockchain that boasts to be more environmentally friendly than the Ethereum mainnet.

Talking about this partnership, Getty Images CEO Craig Peters, said, “This partnership speaks to our mission to connect people with our exclusive, high-quality visual content.”

“The rapidly growing audience of NFT collectors represents significant opportunities for our company and our global community of photographers,” He further added.

Candy Digital previously operated NFT marketplaces for Major League Baseball, the Race Team Alliance, and the WWE.

Photography NFTs have already shown good potential. Photographers including Cath Simard, Elise Swopes, Randall Slavin, Aimos Vasquez, and Anna McNaught have sold their photos for thousands of Ethereum. Popular NFT marketplace OpenSea also has a “trending photography” category for this niche. This could be the reason why Getty Images decided to jump into NFT segment.
