Ola Electric is recalling over 1441 units of S1 Pro electric scooters in the wake of incidents of vehicles catching fire. The company has been investigating the issue and found that it was an isolated issue affecting a specific batch. So, it has decided to recall units of that batch.

The company will conduct a detailed diagnostic and health check of the scooters to find the root cause. Once the investigation is done, the company is expected to make the findings public soon.

“These scooters will be inspected by our service engineers and will go through a thorough diagnostics across all battery systems, thermal systems as well as the safety systems,” Ola Electric said in a statement.

The company claims that its battery system complies with the latest proposed standard AIS 156 for India and European standard ECE 136.

A few weeks ago, an Ola S1 Pro caught fire. Photos and videos were widely circulated on social media. Not just ola, a few other electric scooters by Pure EV and Okinawa also caught fire in different incidents. So, people are now concerned about safety.

Ola took this decision days after Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari put out a stern warning to electric vehicle companies. He suggested that these companies may face heavy penalties if they fail to solve battery-related issues.
