Today, Instagram announced that the company will shut down the IGTV app. All IGTV content will be added to the main Instagram app. The company will turn its focus on improving Reels. Instagram believes that the move will help users have everything in the main app and will simplify the video experience on Instagram.

“Video is a huge part of why people enjoy Instagram, and we love how our creator community uses it to express themselves, collaborate with others, and connect with their followers,” the company said in the blog post. “Reels continues to be a growing and important part of Instagram and we are excited to invest even more in this format.”

Instagram ditched IGTV branding last October and combined IGTV videos and Instagram feed videos into Instagram Video. At that time, the company said that the IGTV app will continue to exist.

Instagram will also explore more ways of earning through reels. The company is now testing a new ad experience on Reels, so creators can earn money by making Reels on the platform.

The company will also now shift focus to Reels and will no longer support in-stream video ads. Creators who actively monetize videos with in-stream video ads will receive their payments based on recent earnings.
