Instagram is now adding automatic captions to videos in your feed. Initially, it will be available in Select languages but could be expanded to more languages in the coming months. Before this option, creators had to manually add captions to their videos. It was a time-consuming process and needed much effort.
For now, auto-generated captions will be available in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Arabic, Vietnamese, Italian, German, Turkish, Russian, Thai, Tagalog, Urdu, Malay, Hindi, Indonesian and Japanese.
Instagram also claims that the quality of captions will continue to improve over time as the AI learns. Captions will be on by default for creators on the platform.
The new addition will help people who are deaf or have hearing issues. People who want videos with the sound off will also find the feature useful. You won’t have to enable sound to understand what someone is saying in the video.
TikTok already had auto-generated captions and the feature was introduced back in April 2021. Instagram is keep copying features from TikTok. Reels is actually its own version of TikTok. The company also added Remix, its version of TikTok Duets. Later it also introduced Reels Visual Replies that is similar to TikTok’s video replies.
