Google has started rolling out the Locked Folder feature of Google Photos to other non-Pixel phones. It was initially released only for Pixel devices and has been available on the Pixel 3 or later devices until now
Locked Folder lets you keep your photos safe from unauthorized access within Google Photos. It asks for a passcode or biometric verification to access. So, anyone having your unlocked phone cannot access your personal photos.
To enable Locked Folder in the Google Photos app, Go to Library > Utilities > Locked Folder. Here, tap Set up Locked Folder. I have already written a detailed guide on how to use Locked Folder in Google Photos. Read this article to know how to enable and use Locked Folder in Google Photos.
I tried it on my OnePlus 6T running Android 11 and it is working fine. Google has confirmed that the feature is available on Android 6 and later.
Photos stored in the Locked Folder won’t be backed up to the cloud. If you uninstall Google Photos or wipe your device without transferring them, you will lose your photos. So, remember these things if you plan to use Locked Folder feature. These photos will also not be shown in the Photos grid, memories, search, or albums.
