Snapchat gets TikTok-like AR music lenses

Snapchat

Snap has closed a music licensing deal with Sony Music Entertainment to bring songs from Sony artists in Snapchat’s Sounds library. The company is also creating new AR music lenses called ‘Sound Lenses’.

Snapchat’s Sound Lenses will have a pre-selected song embedded into the lens. These Sound Lenses can make it look like you’re singing the song or you. You can also add a friend to an animated music video. To find Lenses with Sounds, look for Lenses that have a musical note icon on the Lens icon.

Ben Schwerin, Snap’s senior VP of content and partnerships, said: “Our new deal with Sony Music marks a major milestone as Snap now has partnerships with all the major labels, in addition to networks of independent labels and emerging artists,” said “We’re excited to further integrate Sounds into our AR Lenses to provide artists a proven and powerful way to share their music, and create immersive new experiences for our community.”

Snap confirms that users have created more than 1.2 billion videos using the Sounds feature and have generated nearly 77 billion views. It shows that Music is doing well for the company to get engagement.

Snap already has music licensing deals with Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group, Universal Music Publishing Group, Warner Chappell, Kobalt, BMG and many others.

Songs from Sony Music will be available to Snapchat users globally, across iOS and Android.
