Reddit to Shut Down Dubsmash App on February 20, 2022

Reddit-owned Dubsmash is a fun platform where users create unique, dynamic, and interactive video content. Today, Reddit confirmed that Dubsmash will not be available to download after February 22, 2022. The app will also stop working on devices that already have the app.

Dubsmash team has been working to integrate its video tools into Reddit since its acquisaition. Now when integration is almost done, Reddit has decided to drop Dubsmash app.

Reddit has also introduce more video functionality to Reddit including timer, recording speed, uploading or videos on landscape or portrait mode, adjust or trim multiple clips and Reddit-first lenses to meme.

Reddit is also getting new text Stickers, drawing tool, filters, voice over, volume adjustment and more tools.

All these video tools are now available on Reddit iOS and Android apps.

Reddit acquired Dubsmash back in December 2020. Since the acquisition, the app saw 70 percent growth in overall hours watched and managed to grew daily active video viewers by 30%. The primary purpose of acquisition was to integrate Dubshmash’s video creation tools to Reddit. Now when the integration is finally done, Reddit is set to axe the app.
