YouTube Music finally comes to Wear OS smartwatches

YouTube Music WearOS

Finally, YouTube has unveiled the YouTube Music app for Wear OS. Users were waiting for this app since the company shut down Google Play Music on Wear OS last year in August.

Before you become excited, let me tell you a few important things about the YouTube Music app for wear OS. The most notable thing is that the app only works on Samsung’s two new watches powered by Wear OS 3. These smartwatches will be available starting August 27th

So, you have to buy Galaxy Watch 4 or a Galaxy Watch 4 Classic to enjoy YouTube Music on your smartwatch. You also need a YouTube Premium subscription to download music on your smartwatch for listing to offline.

9to5Google notes that the app isn’t as good as we expect. There is no way to stream music from the app. You can only download music right now. For downloading songs, you need to put the watch on a charger. You can download between 50 and 500 songs, depending on the storage available on your watch.

For listing to songs, you will have to pair a Bluetooth headset with the watch. The watch can also play music through the watch’s speaker if the Bluetooth headset lost connection. There is no way to start playback without connecting a Bluetooth headset.

Even if there are some issues, it is nice to see YouTube Music making its way to Wear OS. Google will surely update the app to resolve issues and add more features.
