Facebook has just announced that it is rolling out end-to-end encryption for voice and voice calls for Messenger. This makes calls safe from hackers and criminals. Nobody except the sender and receiver can see your conversation.

Messenger rolled out end-to-end encryption for text messages back in 2016. Now it is also available for calls because calls are now an important part of communication. Messenger now sees more than 150 million video calls a day.

“End-to-end encryption is already widely used by apps like WhatsApp to keep personal conversations safe from hackers and criminals. It’s becoming the industry standard and works like a lock and key, where just you and the people in the chat or call have access to the conversation,” Facebook said in a blogpost.

Facebook-owned WhatsApp already offers end-to-end encrypted calls. The company also confirmed that it will start testing end-to-end encryption for group chat, including voice and video calls. We still don’t know when it would be released to all users.

Facebook is also updating disappearing messages in Messenger. Users can now choose from more options for disappearing time. It starts with 5 seconds and goes up to 24 hours.
