Twitter’s own version of Stories dubbed as ‘Fleets’ will die soon. Twitter is shutting down Fleets because not many people are using it. Starting on August 3rd, Twitter Fleets will stop working. Users will now see active Spaces in place of Fleets at the top section of Twitter.

This decision came just eight months are after rolling out Fleets to all users globally. The company couldn’t get many users to add Fleets. Now the company will explore more ways to increase engagement on the platform.

“We’re evolving what Twitter is, and trying bigger, bolder things to serve the public conversation. A number of these updates, like Fleets, are speculative and won’t work out. We’ll be rigorous, evaluate what works, and know when to move on and focus elsewhere,” Twitter’s Head of Product, Brand & Video Ads, Ilya Brown wrote in the blog post.

Fleets were similar to Stories we see no Snapchat and Instagram. Instagram copied this feature from Snapchat and saw a surge in user engagement but Twitter failed. Now the company will focus more on Spaces, Twitter’s live audio chat rooms.
