Instagram will soon let users toggle public like counts on and off
Instagram is now planning to give users control if they want to show posts like counts or not. Soon users will get a toggle to enable or disable the link counts. The company is now testing this option with a small set of users.
Initially, the company tested hiding public like count for certain users without giving them an option. The company wanted to hide like count so users focus on posting quality content without worrying about like count. But, Influencers weren’t happy with the decision because they thought it would affect their deals with brands. Although a person can see like counts of his own posts and can share the screenshot with the brands in case of branded content.
Now Instagram is giving users a freedom to decide if they want to show the like count or not.
Facebook also tested hiding the public like count back in 2019 in selected regions. If Instagram gets a positive response in this new test, Facebook will also add the toggle to let users decide if they want to show like count or not.
