Apple’s HomePod is getting some new features via a new software update. The most notable feature is Intercom that lets you record a message on one HomePod and send it to another if you have a multi HomePod setup. This feature was initially announced with HomePod Mini launched recently.

This feature is really interesting. You can say, “Hey Siri, tell everyone, Dinner is ready.” It will be broadcasted to all HomePod speakers at your home.
Intercom is a pretty interesting feature but Apple isn’t the only one offering this. One can also do the same with the Echo speakers. So, Apple has gone a step ahead by including iPhone, iPad, AirPods, Apple Watch, and CarPlay in intercom. The integration of other devices will be available by the end of this year. For now, Intercom is limited to HomePod-to-HomePod communication.
The update also brings deeper integration with Apple Maps and iPhone. It also brings the ability to set and stop timers and alarms from any HomePod. You also now ask Siri for information about traffic conditions, nearby restaurants, and businesses. Siri suggestion will appear in Maps on your iPhone with routes. HomePod owners can also now ask Siri to search the web and then get results on the iPhone.
More HomePod features will arrive by the end of this year.
