Google has announced a new feature ‘Verified Calls’ in the Phone app for Android devices. This feature identifies calls from genuine business numbers and thus helps in preventing spam and fraud calls. This feature will display the caller’s game, logo, and the reason they are calling along with a verification symbol.

Spam and scam calls is a huge problem people face daily. People receive calls from scammers pretending to call from bank asking for credit card details and end up losing money. Google’s this new feature will help in avoiding such scammers.

This feature lets businesses register their phone numbers as business numbers. After the initial setup, the business will have to send Google’s Verified Calls server its number and call reason like “your food delivery.” This information will be sent to Google’s phone app. Google’s Phone app compares the incoming call information received from the business. If there’s a match, the call will be shown as ‘Verified’.

This feature is enabled by default in Google’s Phone app. The app is also available to download on Android devices later this week.

Google is launching Verified Calls in the U.S., Mexico, Brazil, Spain, and India. Later, it will be launched in other countries.
