Along with 8th-gen 10.2-inch iPad, Apple has also unveiled a new iPad Air that feels similar to iPad Pro. The new iPad Air has much thinner bezels all around. This new iPad comes with a bigger 10.9-inch Liquid Retina display (2360 x 1640) with True Tone support and anti-reflective coating.
Apple has moved the Touch ID fingerprint sensor to the power button at the top. Like it did in iPhone, Apple could remove the TouchID but it is clear that Apple has seen the demand for fingerprint-based unlocking. Could it show up in the upcoming iPhone 12?
It packs Apple’s A14 Bionic, a 5nm chip that includes a six-core CPU. Apple claims that the new iPad Air will offer 40 percent performance improvement over the last iPad Air and improved graphics support. Like always, Apple claims that A14 Bionic is the most advanced chip the company has ever made.
Apple has included the same 12 megapixels rear camera in the new iPad Air that was added in iPad Pro. But the new camera has also received improvements to offer improved video stabilization. It also has a front-facing 7-megapixel FaceTime HD camera with smart HDR and support for 1080p 60fps video.
It also supports Apple Pencil that magnetically attaches at the side of the tablet. It also supports Apple’s Magic Keyboard accessory. Speakers also get an upgrade with stereo audio in landscape mode.
In the new iPad Air, the company is switching to USB-C like in iPad Pro. The new tablet also supports 20W charging.
The new iPad Air starts at $599 and will be available next month.
