Last year in January, Facebook’s co-founder and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg revealed his intention of merging WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook Messenger to offer a single platform. Now the company has moved a step ahead in the same direction.

Several Instagram users in the US have received a message on their Insta app saying, “There’s a New Way to Message on Instagram” and a list of features including a new colorful look for your chats.” After the update, Instagram’s DM icon has been replaced with the Messenger logo.

The new message interface is more colorful. The pop-up screen also says that you can now “Chat with friends who use Facebook.” However, it is still not possible to message Facebook users from Instagram. But the intention is clear and this will be possible soon.

Facebook has already launched Rooms that has been integrated with Messaging, WhatsApp, and Instagram. Now the same is coming for normal messages. The company also claims that the new platform will be end-to-end encrypted.

Facebook bought Instagram back in 2012 for $1billion and acquired WhatsApp in 2019 for $19 billion. Both the platforms connect billions of users.
