Windows 10 now has over 1 billion active users

Microsoft Surface Laptop 3

Microsoft launched Windows 10 back in July 2015. Now in less than 5 years, the desktop operating system has crossed 1 billion active users mark. The company added 100 million users in the last six months.

This number includes PCs, laptops, Xbox One consoles, and HoloLens devices. There are over 80,000 models and configurations of different laptops and 2-in-1s from over 1,000 different manufacturers. Microsoft also confirmed that it now has 17.8 million Windows Insider testers.

Microsoft also claims, “100% of the Fortune 500 uses Windows 10 devices.”

When the company launched the OS, it aimed to achieve this milestone within 3 years but took little over than originally expected time.

This milestone figure came after Microsoft ended support for Windows 7. So, it is clear that several businesses upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10. That’s why the growth in Windows 10 users in recent months was high. This upgrade was visible in the company’s earnings announced in January. PC market also had its first year of growth since 2011.
