According to a report, Google is planning to shut down its popular instant messaging and video calling service Hangouts sometimes in 2020.

After reading this report, I was not much surprised because Google already has shown a lack of interest. It launched Duo and Allow for video calls and instant message. When Google launched these two apps even if it had popular Hangouts, I knew that Google is not interested in hangouts any more. Google has also stopped pushing proper updates to hangouts. Recently reviews on play store talk about bugs and performance issues. It shows that Google is not properly taking care of the app.

Hangouts still have lots of users and the primary reason is its cross-platform availability. It is also available on the web and as a chat option in Gmail. So, you can also use your system to Make video calls or have text messaging with friends.

It was also reported that Hangouts as a brand will continue with G Suite’s Hangouts Chat and Hangouts Meet. These two are key services for Google G Suite’s business customers.

I am still an active user of Hangouts and will surely miss it. Do you use Hangouts? Let me know your thoughts on this recent development. Comment below.
