Today, WhatsApp officially announced real-time location sharing feature. It has already been rumored for a long time. This feature has been borrowed from its parent company Facebook that added Live location sharing on Messenger. Google Maps also offers the same feature to track your friends in real-time.

WhatsApp called this feature ‘Live Location’. With this, you can share your location with any of your WhatsApp contacts. You will have the ability to select the expiry time of location sharing. You can also manually stop it anytime.
To use the Live Location, you need to open the chat with the person or group. Tap on attach icon and select the Location. Here, you see option “Share Live Location”. You can set the timer for how long you want to share your live location. Multiple people can also share their location at the same time and app people will be visible on the same map.
WhatsApp also confirms that the location sharing will be end-to-end encrypted.
This feature has been added in both Android and iOS apps. The company is rolling out it gradually and will be available to all in coming weeks.
