India’s biggest telecom company Airtel has finally launched VoLTE service in India. As of now, the service is available in Mumbai and will be launched in other cities soon.

With VoLTE, Airtel customers in Mumbai can now enjoy HD quality voice calls along with faster call set up time. The company has made it clear that there will be no additional data charges for VoLTE and calls will be billed as per existing plan or packs benefits.

VoLTE became popular in India when Jio entered in India’s telecom market. It offers VoLTE calls and all calls over VoLTE are free. It added lots of pressure on other telecom operators to bring VoLTE. Now after a year of Jio’s service, Airtel has finally brought its VoLTE in India.

Unlike Reliance Jio’ VoLTE offering, Airtel VoLTE service will have a fall back on 3G/2G network. So, your call will be connected using 3G/2G when it is not reachable via VoLTE.

To enjoy VoLTE calls, you must have a 4G phone with support to VoLTE. If you are not sure about the VoLTE compatibility of your phone, you can check it here www.airtel.in/volte.
