Google Duo Audio Calling Is Being Rolled Out Globally

Google Duo

Google has started rolling out audio calls in Google Duo Globally. Justin Uberti, Technical lead for Duo, has tweeted about this global roll out.

Google Duo is the video calling app launched back in August last year. Initially, the app came with just video calling to make video calling simpler. Later, it started testing audio calls for situations when the network connection is poor.

Making audio call is simple. When you tap on the new call button, you will see a toggle at the top to switch to video or audio modes. Select the audio mode to make audio calls.

If you already Duo app installed on your phone, you need to update it to the latest version. The update may not be available instantly. So, you will have to wait few more days before you could start using audio calls.

It is worth to note that both persons participating in audio calls must have the latest version of the app. If you call to a person whose phone has the lower version of the app, you will be notified that the person is using the older version and you cannot make audio calls to him/her.

With audio calling option, it is now in direct competition with WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger. Both of these services offer audio and video calls along with text messaging. Google Duo lacks text messaging because Google launched a separate smart text messaging service Allo to replace Google Hangouts.

Try making audio calls on Duo and see if it offers you the better quality than your existing audio calling app. Don’t forget to share your views with us in the comments.
