Google is reportedly dropping the Nexus branding from its upcoming smartphones. These phones will be marketed as Pixel andPixel XL. The reason for this brand shift is not known yet.

The Pixel will be a 5-inch Sailfish device and Pixel XL will be 5.5-inch Marlin device. Both of these phones are being built by Google.

There are multiple reports confirming that Nexus branding is no more. So using Pixel brand for next phones also makes sense when Google already uses Pixel for its tablets.

We cannot confirm whether Nexus is dead or not, but we do have doubt on its future. Only Google can make it clear and we hope to get a valid reason for the launch of new devices.

Earlier this year Sundar Pichai confirmed that Google would be taking more control on Nexus phones including software. So, this shift in branding could be to advertise that phones are from Google even if manufacturing partner is HTC.
