While web publishers like us are trying to save us from ad blockers, browser makers are making it easier for users to block ads. Opera has just updated its main and Mini browser apps for Android, iOS and Windows with the new ad-blocking feature as a core part of the apps.

After updating the app, users will see a new ad blocking option under the data saving menu within the apps. So, there is no need to install anything else for using the ad blocker on your mobile phone.

Opera also claims that Opera for Android with ad blocker offers 14% faster web browsing than Chrome. Opera’s use of compression also helps in this. So, it not just block ads, but also saves your mobile data. It matters if your data plans are costly.

According to data from PageFair, a number of people using the ad blocker on mobiles phones have increased 90% last year. With this kind of easy options available for ad blocking, this number will grow rapidly.

How does it affect the Internet?

As a user, you may find the use of ad blocker helpful. But, you are ignoring various important things. The Internet is full of content including videos, photos and articles. Most of the content creators including large publishers and bloggers like us are dependent on advertising revenue to keep us working. We serve ads to earn money to pay our bills and produce better content for you. Use of ad blocker affects us a lot. Many websites have started blocking content for visitors using ad blockers. Many publishers have started using paid content option. If the use of ad blocker will grow with current pace, future of Internet will be on paid content. Most of the publishers will not allow free access to their content or services.

It is your personal choice to see ads or not. But, you will also never like to get paid for your efforts. But, you just did the same by installing the ad blocker.

We never suggest people to stop using ad blockers. But we suggest them to block ads only on those sites which overuse ads to irritate visitors.
