Popular cab booking service Ola has added a new category in its app called “Ola Lux”. This app will offer luxury cars like Jaguar, Audi, BMW, Accord, Mercedes and other high-end sedans and SUVs. The service is currently available in South Mumbai only and company plans to launch it in other parts of the city before thinking about launching it in other countries.

For Ola Lux, the company has decided minimum fare of Rs. 200 and then Rs. 19 per/km. Ride time charge of Rs. 2 per minute will also be added to the final bill. Ola Lux will work like other categories and differs only in pricing. After updating your app, you should see this option.

Ola Lux will offer you many features including SOS buttons, AutoConnect Wifi, live tracking and seamless payment using Ola Money.

“Ola has always focused on providing superior in-cab experience, and choices to suit the need, usage occasion and mood of its customers. Ola Lux is an offering in that direction, at the high end,” said Raghuvesh Sarup, Head of Categories and Chief Marketing Officer at Ola.

Demand for luxury vehicles will only be in cities like Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore where celebrities and big business men can book this for their ride. Now, the point to consider is that Uber already had similar kind of service ‘UberBLACK’ when it first came in country. But it shut down from most of the regions. the service due to lack of demand. If Uber faced lack of demand, will Ola get customers for this? As of now, UberBLACK is only available in South Mumbai, where the demand for such vehicles seems to be high. This is the reason Ola has started this service from the same area to give Uber competition in this segment.
