New Intel Core i7 Extreme Edition is more than VR ready with 10 cores

PCs have been an example of a dying breed of technology for analysts, observers, and journalists. However, starting in the past year, several developments have taken place that is attracting the spotlight back to the PC.

With the increase in the demand for high-powered processing for VR, games, and other multimedia content, the processing power offered by mobile devices is not proving to be enough for such applications.

Answering this requirement, Intel took to the stage at the Computex 2016 to unveil a processor which is the most “extreme” Extreme edition that they have released till date. The Intel Core i7 edition boasts of 10 cores which are able to work together to deliver the computing power needed for those immersive experiences.

While you can experience VR on your mobile devices as seen with the Samsung Gear VR and you can use your iPad for video editing, the natural capabilities of these devices are inhibited.

The sixth generation of the Intel processors, known as “Skylake” has various models in its series, however, the most interesting processor is  the Core i7-6950X, having 10 cores and the capability of running at 3.5 GHz max. It also comes with extreme multi-tasking capabilities which Intel calls “mega-tasking.” The processor accesses this ability with 20 threads which exclusively work for providing the best multi-tasking performance.

With the processor,  40 PCIe lanes are exposed, which are capable of providing a direct connection for the expansion peripherals to the CPU, including super-fast SSD storage, the latest and most powerful discrete graphics cards, and the multi-functional high-speed Thunderbolt 3.

The most noticeable factor for this processor is definitely the price. Priced at r $1,569 (Approx 1,06,000 INR) it needs a not-so-small investment from the target audience.

So, are you considering buying this beast of a processor? If no, then which Skylake processor will you go for? Do let us know in the comments section!
