According to recent report from Financial Times, Microsoft has acquired popular third-party keyboard app Swiftkey for $250 million. It is worth to mention that Swiftkey built an AI powered keyboard app for Android and iOS. But this app was not available for Windows Phone.

Swiftkey was founded back in 2008 and claims over 300 million installations. As of now, it supports 89 languages. Various companies have also partnered with Swiftkey to bring its keyboard app pre-installed in devices.

Microsoft and Swiftkey declined to comment on this.

Microsoft is already on buying spree with various acquisitions in past few months. This acquisition will be also an interesting thing for company. With this app, it will have more reach to Android and iOS platforms. Microsoft has already been working on its own keyboard app for Windows 10 and it was also expected to come for iOS platform too. If the report is true, Microsoft can use Swiftkey and drop its idea of building a keyboard app from scratch.

We are still waiting to get official confirmation from the company. Microsoft has yet to confirm this report.

Update: Microsoft has confirmed the acquisition.
