Offline Google Maps is now available in India

Offline Google Maps in India

To make your travelling stress free, Google has just pushed offline capabilities of Google Maps in India. SO, you can now find directions on Google Maps even if your data connection is too slow or data connection is not working.

For this, you will have to download the entire map of that area in your phone to use it when you do not have data connection. So, if you are going to a place where Internet connectivity will not be good, you can download the map of that place. Once you have saved the map of that area, you will get turn-by-turn driving directions, search for specific destinations, and find useful information about places without data connection. Of course real-time traffic information will not be available.

To download the map of a place, search for that place (for example search for: Delhi) on maps and then tap on location to see the download link. Tap on download link to download the entire map and enjoy offline access on your device.

Whenever your device will get Internet connection, Google maps will automatically switch to online maps from offline maps.

“Having a spotty internet connection shouldn’t mean you miss your next turn. With the launch of these new offline features, like turn by turn navigation and the ability to search for places, we hope it will be easier for people in India to find their way using Google maps.” explains Suren Ruhela, Director, Google Maps.

Google also launched a dedicated public transport to help people search for nearest public transport. Now just this, Google also launched offline Youtube in India last year and also ‘Google light search’ for mobile devices to help users living in slow connection area. India is a big and fastest growing market on Internet. So, Google do not want to lose any chance to capture this market to boost its presence.

Google first showcased these new capabilities during Google I/O back in May. This download feature is only available for Android app. Hope to see this for iOS users too in coming months.
