Every day we hear news about websites getting hacked, computer getting compromised. But have you ever heard hacking a moving car? sounds crazy but it happened and it happened live. This is scary. It might mean they could open your car doors, or mess with your steering.

Hackers have tested an exploit which was found in the onboard system of a Jeep Cherokee. They successfully managed to remotely take over the control and crash the vehicle into a ditch while sitting on their sofa about 10 miles away.

If you want to update your Jeep’s software, visit https://www.driveuconnect.com/software-update/, enter your VIN and download the software onto a thumb drive. From there, consult your car’s manual regarding updating it from the memory stick.

Jeep has issued security update for cars fitted with a model RA3 or model RA4 radio/navigation system.

Researchers believe that, although they’ve only tested it out on Jeeps, the attacks could be tweaked to work on any Chrysler car with a vulnerable Uconnect head unit. These kinds of incidents show that how exposed we are to the modern technology.

To gain complete access over the Jeep, all they really need is a laptop and a cellular phone, and then the results can be devastating.

This security breach was revealed by security researchers, namely Charlie Miller and Chris Valasek. The breach was discovered right after the recent incident of a passenger jet in which the hacker took control of the jet.

In the past Charlie has demonstrated his ability to not just hack into the likes of the Toyota Prius and Ford Escape, but also mess around with their braking and steering.  These kinds of incidents show that how exposed we are to the modern technology.

Here is the Video where Charlie and fellow researcher Chris Valasek took Forbes journalist Andy Greenberg for a drive he’ll never forget.
