Telegram

Popular messaging app Telegram has reached a new milestone of 50 Million active users with 1 Billion messages being sent every day. To be very clear, Telegram is not an Indian app. It is backed by Non-Profit Organisation based out of Germany.telegram milestone

In March, Telegram confirmed 35 million monthly active users from which 15 million were daily active users. It also confirmed 18 billion messages monthly or 600 million messages daily. If we compare this with current numbers, no one can deny that Telegram has seen impressive growth in past 6 months.

Telegram claims that it has achieved this very fast by spending $0 on advertising. But. you may have read about the recent marketing stunt done in India to gather more users which seemed to have worked in their favour. This helped company a lot and in just 2 days, it recorded 1.5 million new users. Telegram is closing in the gap very quickly since it’s been only 16 months since its inception.

If we compare it with rivals, Whatsapp has more than 600 million active users with India alone boasting a user base of more than 70 million which is over a tenth of it Global users. The Second position is taken by WeChat based out of China which boasts of 468 Million active users. A distant third is taken by Viber with 209 Million active users followed by Japan’s Line with 170 Million users.

So Telegram still has a long way to go. But the way it is growing, it can soon be very close to Whatsapp.
