Airtel Launches Music Streaming App Wynk for Android and iOS

Today, Bharti Airtel has launched a new music streaming service called Wynk Music. Wynk app is now available for Android and iOS. Wynk offers ‘expert curated’ library of around 1.7 million songs across 8 different languages. These languages include English, Hindi, Punjabi, Bhojpuri, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Bengali.

Although the service has been launched by Airtel but other telecom operator users can also use this service without any problem. But Airtel users do get few extra benefits.

Wynk Music app offers ads-free subscription service. It has two subscription plans: Wynk Plus and Wynk Freedom. Users can also use this service without subscription and will be able to stream songs online. They can also tune to online radio and set any song as their ‘hello tune’ or purchase songs and albums. There is also an option to view lyrics of a song.

Although the company claims that this offers unlimited streaming. But there is a Fair Usage Policy (FUP). Company also explains this on official website.

“A very small number of customers use an excessive amount of network bandwidth, to the extent that it cam impact the experience of others. The Fair Usage Policy (FUP) is designed to provide the best of streaming & download experience to all our customers,” Wynk Music wrote bout FUP.

If we talk about the subscription plans, Wynk Plus costs Rs. 99 month for Android and Rs. 60 for iOS. In this, users can download unlimited songs and play those songs offline. Users will also be able to access online radio, hello tune service and lyrics service.

Wynk Freedom service is only for Airtel customers in 3G circles with Android devices. In this, company offers unlimited streaming and download of songs without deducting data charges. This service costs only Rs. 129 per month with Rs. 29 special introductory price. As you do not need to worry about the data charges, this service seems fair for Airtel customers. This service will be available for iOS users in coming days.

Speaking at the launch, Srinivasan Gopalan, Director – Consumer Business, Bharti Airtel said, “With the proliferation of smartphones in the country, mobile phones have emerged as the most preferred platform when it comes to experiencing music on the go and accounts for almost 85-90 percent of total digital consumption. We are introducing this segment to Wynk – an innovative platform that blends technology and music and present a whole new dimension to music uptake in the country. Given our legacy with music and our strong smartphone network, we are certain that Wynk will offer the best-in-class user experience and become one of the most sought after app.”

Airtel users will be able to pay for subscription via prepaid recharge or postpaid bill. Other operator users will have option to pay via credit card, debit card, internet banking or PayTM wallet.
