eBay hacked; Change Your Password Now

eBayOn Wednesday, eBay confirmed that its corporate network was hacked and users’ database was compromised. Company is also asking 145 million users to change their passwords.

“The database, which was compromised between late February and early March, included eBay customers’ name, encrypted password, email address, physical address, phone number and date of birth.” eBay said in a blog post.”However, the database did not contain financial information or other confidential personal information. The company said that the compromised employee log-in credentials were first detected about two weeks ago. Extensive forensics subsequently identified the compromised eBay database, resulting in the company’s announcement today.”

Company said that the cyber attack was made between late February and early March. This cyber attack gave hackers full access to eBay customers’ detailed including name, encrypted password, email address, home address, phone number and date of birth. Good news is that compromised data did not contain the financial information or any kind of confidential information.

Company also confirmed that Paypal users are safe because PayPal data is stored separately on a secure network. And there is no evidence of unauthorized access to information of Paypal users.

If you have an eBay account, you should change the password of your account. Company has also started requesting users to change their password.
