UC Browser Overtakes Opera Mini in India to Become Top Mobile Browser

Chinese mobile browser UC Browser has overtaken the mobile browser market leader Opera Mini to become the number one mobile browser in India. According to latest stats by Statcounter, UC browser has 29.91% market share in month of July 2013 while Opera only has 28.55% market share.

UC Browser Overtakes Opera Mini

In past few months, UC Browser has seen good growth and increment in popularity. Company has also tied up with many smartphones and tablet vendors to supply UC Browser bundled in their devices. US Web has partnership with HTC, Samsung, Nokia, LG, Lenovo and carriers such as Vodafone, China Mobile and China Telecom. It seems that the strategy worked for the company.

Last year in September, UC Web, company behind UC Browser has announced to have 400 million users with 60 million alone in China. At that time, it had only 20% market share in India.

Opera has also tied up with 7 Indian smartphone companies to bring Opera Mini Pre-installed in Android devices, but it couldn’t retain its position.

India is the second biggest market for both Opera Mini and UC Browser. Both companies will try to be at top. Opera Mini will try to get its position back while UC Browsers will fight to retain its position. In future, we will see good competition in mobile browsers.
