Crowdfunding platform Indiegogo has confirmed that Canonical’s Ubuntu Edge Campaign has set the new crowdfunding record. It has become the largest crowdfunding project ever with $11.6 million in funding. Previous record was held by Pebble Watch campaign by Kickstarter. It was ended last month at $10.3 million funding.

Although, Canonical has set a new crowdfunding record with 24,000 donors but it will miss the goal of $32 million. With only 3 days remaining, it’s still more than $20 million to reach the goal. For this crowdfunding, Canonical has used ‘fixed funding’ plan. It means, funds will only be collected if the goal is met. So, all the 24,000 investors will get refund.

Earlier this month, Canonical has also dropped the price of the device to get more investors.

Ubuntu Edge is a high end phone with powerful hardware specifications. It will come with most powerful processor, dual boot Ubuntu OS and Android, LTE and GSM network, 4 GB RAM, 128 GB internal storage, 4.5 inch display and much more.

If the funding goal will not reach, company will focus only on the commercially available smartphones. There will be no Ubuntu Edge.
