India is set to launch its new surveillance Program- Centralized Monitoring System as early as December this year. With this program, Indian government will be able intercept all telecommunications and Internet Communications. For this, Government has given contract to Verint Systems, Israel’s cyber intelligence solutions provider.
This program will let Indian government to track encrypted communication including Gmail, Yahooo mail, Hotmail an Skype. Few days back BlackBaerry has also given access of its servers to India Government.
Recently Verint’s leadership team met Kapil Sibal regarding this Interception Program. Company will work in co-ordination with DoT’s security wing and CERT-In.
“Verint is willing to work with the Indian government to address the issue of intercepting encrypted communications like Gmail, Yahoo-. mail and others. It will shortly co-ordinate with DoT’s security wing and CERT-In teams to implement a customised interception solution,” says an internal telecom department note.
About a year ago, Indian government has identified 15 forms of encrypted communication in country that it could not break. It includes Gmail, BBM, Nokia email, Ymail, Skyp and few other. Now, government wants to intercept these services.
Israel based Verint has also informed Sibal that it worked with 77 countries to provide solution for tracking encrypted communications. It can also provide the same service in customized for India.
Verint will provide a in-house CMS to Indian government to trak voice calls, fax messages, text messages and MMSes across all telephone networks in the country.
