Facebook Added Hashtag for Organized Public Conversation

Facebook has just announced the support of hashtag in Facebook posts. It will give ability to follow a conversation via hash tags. We have already reported in march that Facebook is working to bring hash tag support to Facebook.

This is not a new idea. Twitter, Tumbler, Pinterest and Google+ already support hash tag. Whenever you click on hashtag of a post, you will see the feeds of posts using the hashtag. It makes it easier to search for an information on Facebook related to a topic.

“Every day, hundreds of millions of people use Facebook to share their thoughts on big moments happening all around them. Whether it’s talking about a favorite television show, cheering on a hometown sports team or engaging with friends during a breaking news event — people on Facebook connect with their friends about what’s taking place all over the world,” Greg Lindley, a Facebook product manager, wrote in the blog post. “To bring these conversations more to the forefront, we will be rolling out a series of features that surface some of the interesting discussions people are having about public events, people and topics.”

Facebook also made it clear that this new feature is being rolled out. So, you might not see it right away. Currently it is available to 20% users and will be available to other users gradually. Facebook also confirmed that many other features are coming to the website in near future. These other features include trending hashtags as in Twitter.
