Microsoft Launches Windows 8After launching Windows 8 last week, now Microsoft has launched its much awaited mobile operating system, Windows Phone 8. With this new reinvented mobile platform, company wants to grow in smartphone market.

In the event being held in San Francisco, Joe Belfiore, corporate vice president of Microsoft said that the new mobile operating system is a response to what the lack of evolution in the mobile operating system market.

“We can’t wait for the world to meet Windows Phone 8, the most personal smartphone there is,” said Terry Myerson, corporate vice president of the Windows Phone Division at Microsoft. “Windows Phone 8 comes on a range of phones that are stunning, colorful and unique.”

Windows Phone 8 has adjustable live tiles. It also comes with new lock screen with live apps. This will automatically surface photos, notifications, and content from all of favorite apps

These are the main features in Windows Phone 8

Live Apps: Live apps aims to bring information direct to the start screen. These live information can be a Groupon deal, flight information, live news or Facebook notification.

High Resolution Display: Windows Phone 8 now support higher resolution display support. Now it can support for 1280 x 720 and 1280x 768 resolutions.

Maps: Microsoft has added Nokia Maps in Windows Phone 8. It is added as a default mapping application. Company has dumped its own Bing maps. This mapping app also work in offline mode with wider turn by turn coverage.

IE 10: For Internet access, it comes with new IE10 browser with deep integration of Skype. It also features many security features including anti-phishing.

Wallet and NFC: WP8 brings all latest wallet technologies including NFC. Wallet can also store your card info on your phone.

MicroSD Car Support: Finally Microsoft has added microSD card support for memory expansion which was not available in older version of Windows phone platforms.

Kids Corner: It also has a kids corner where parents can select apps, music, games etc for their kids to play with. It’s a nice idea which has been added in WP8. Now parents can give their phone to children without any worry about deleted photos, misdirected emails, unapproved purchases or accidental phone calls.

Company CEO steve Ballmer presented few smartphones running on Windows Phone 8.

“There’s one more thing that sets Windows Phones apart,” said Ballmer. “That is new, killer hardware.”

After today’s launch Nokia Samsung and HTC has announced their series of Windows Phone 8 smartphones.

  • Nokia: Nokia has announced Nokia Lumia 822, 820 and 810.

  • Samsung: Samsung ATIV S, ATIV Odyssey
