Yesterday, i have reported the that Microsoft has launched a new security website which will show users about the security level of their web browser. This online tool gives full point to Internet Explore 9 while 2.5 to browser out of 4.
This self boasting does not matters for users any more because they know the reality of browsers. If we take a look on recent browsers security issues, we will noticed that the IE is the most vulnerable web browser. then there is no value of this type of security rating.
Google’s Matt Cutts also commented on this saying,”Microsoft gives Internet Explorer a perfect score (4 points!) for security, and they say Chrome only deserves 2.5 points. I’m not sure it’s worth doing a full debunk of this. It’s the same ‘Look, we have more checkboxes filled in’ type of marketing that was more common in the boxed software era.”
Johnathan Nightingale, Mozilla’s director of Firefox engineering, also said,”Microsoft’s site is more notable for the things it fails to include: security technologies like HSTS, privacy tools like Do Not Track, and vendor response time when vulnerabilities are discovered.”
This shows that noone is going to like this type of security tool. But this has created a new war betwenn Microsfot and other browser vendors. Microsoft was trying to gain popularity by this tool but i do not think it will help the company.
