Coolpad Cool 1 Review

Coolpad Cool 1 Rreview

Coolpad Cool 1 is the cheapest dual camera phone in the market. This phone was made in partnership with LeEco. So, the phone looks almost similar to LeEco Le 2. It also has LeEco’s EUI. I posted the camera review of Coolpad Cool 1 a few days back. In this article, I am adding the full review of Coolpad Cool 1.

It is available exclusively on Amazon.in. Buy it here.

Coolpad Cool 1 Review

Design

Both Coolpad and LeEco have worked together on this phone, so the phone looks like LeEco’s Le 2 from the front. The back is almost the same with the only difference is the dual-camera setup.

Above the display, it has the front camera with proximity sensor while it has three backlit capacitive keys below the display. The phone looks to have narrow bezels but you see thin black around the display when it is on. On the right, there are volume rockers and power button and sim card slot is on the left. The chamfered edges look good and add value to the design.

At the top, it has 3.5 mm jack and infrared blaster while the base side has USB Type-C with speaker grilles on either side.

The back panel has dual camera setup with dual LED flash at left and fingerprint sensor below it. The fingerprint sensor has mirror-finishing to make it better in terms of looks.

The device is beautiful but there is nothing that makes it out of the crowd.

Display

Cool 1 comes with 5.5-inch Full HD IPS LCD display with 401 PPI pixel density. It offers the almost same experience that we found in Le 2. The display offers close to accurate colors and good viewing angles. The display is also reflective that creates some trouble under direct sunlight, but you can still work on it. You also get Corning Gorilla Glass 3 proection over the display.

The display also has different display modes and adaptive display option. You also have few other customization options. Overall, it offers the good experience.

Software

The software is notable as the phone runs on LeEco’s EUI on the top of Android 6.0 Marshmallow. It is worth to note that the EUI lacks LeEco’s services like LeVidi, LeView, and others. All other things are same.

The UI is pretty clean and responsive with the bunch of useful options. Unlike other UIs, you need to tap on multi-tasking key to access quick settings. There is no app drawer, so all apps are on different screen.

You also get the option to customize it with different wallpapers and themes available to choose.

The UI offers light experience with nice features. If you have been using stock Android phone, you will surely like the experience it offers.

Performance

Coolpad Cool 1 comes with Snapdragon 652 processor with 4GB RAM. For handling graphics, it has Adreno 510 GPU. This phone offers powerful experience and good multitasking. The RAM management is pretty nice as well.

This phone offers nice and smooth experience while performing most of the actions including watching videos, scrolling through emails, switching apps, browsing the web and playing games.

The benchmark scores were good and it scored more than Le 2.

The gaming experience of the phone is quite decent with no issues while playing high-end games. The only disappointing this is the heating while gaming. Playing games for a longer time results in heating at the upper half portion.

This phone comes with different storage models with no option to expand the storage.

Camera

This phone comes with two 13MP cameras with a f/2.0 aperture, phase detection autofocus (PDAF) and a dual-LED flash. At the front, it has an 8MP camera with a f/2.2 aperture. I have already talked about the camera in detail. So, read our camera review of Cool 1 and watch the camera review video on our YouTube channel.

In short, the camera setup offers good photography experience across all lightening conditions. Selfie camera is also performing very well. While low light photography is not as good, it is still better than other phones of this price segment. In short, this is the best camera phone in this price range.

Connectivity and Battery

There is also fingerprint sensor. The fingerprint sensor is very quick to unlock the phone. You can also snap photos with it. With infrared sensor at the top, this phone can also be used as remote for most of the home appliances.

It supports 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 ac, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS and USB Type C. Network selection was fine and it has no issues with any of the connectivity options.

This phone comes with 4100 mAh battery that offers decent battery performance. I used the JIo Sim on the phone with all time connected to data. I also watch lots of videos, capture photos around me, access my social media accounts and play games sometimes. For me, the phone easily offered a full day usage without any problem. Depending on your usage, this may vary but I am satisfied with its battery performance.

The battery takes longer time in fully charging from 0 to 100%. It takes more than 2 hours in fully charging.

Final Words

CoolPad Cool 1 comes with the good metallic build, best in class performance, good battery life and excellent camera experience. For the price of Rs. 13,999, this phone is ahead of its competitors and has challenged them to bring the dual camera to the affordable range.
