It’s the first smartphone in the country powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8400 Ultra chipset and the first in its category to feature a 6,500mAh silicon-carbon battery. POCO X7 Pro review

Design

POCO has revamped its design approach with the X7 Pro. It is moved away from the large rectangular camera found in POXO X6 Pro to a more modern vertical pill-shaped module. The phone has a plastic construction with a glossy finish and the dual-tone design looks good. The front panel has Gorilla Glass 7i to protect it from scratches. The phone also has very bezels to offer an immersive viewing experience. There’s a hole punch at the top for the selfie camera.

The power button and volume rockers are on the right edge. It has a speaker grille, USB-C port, and SIM card slot on the base side. You can use two SIM cards, but there’s no option to expand storage. The IR blaster is at the top edge allowing you to use this phone as a remote control for several home appliances.

The phone has flat edges that provide a secure grip. Despite its 200-gram weight, the POCO X7 Pro remains comfortable to use. It also has IP66, IP68, and IP69 certifications making it highly resistant to water and dust. The phone can also easily survive accidental drops.

Display & Multimedia

The 6.67-inch AMOLED display is one of the X7 Pro’s standout features. With 1.5K resolution, a peak brightness of 3,200 nits, and a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, it delivers crisp visuals and smooth scrolling. HDR10+ and Dolby Vision support enhance the viewing experience, especially for streaming content. It also has nice viewing angles and good outdoor visibility. The TUV Rheinland certification ensures minimal blue light emission, making it easier on the eyes.

It has a stereo speakers setup that does a good job. The audio output is loud and clear, with a good balance making it good for multimedia consumption.

There’s also an in-display optical fingerprint sensor that works well and quickly unlocks the phone. You also get a few fingerprint-unlocking animations.

Performance and UI

The phone is powered by by the MediaTek Dimensity 8400 Ultra chipset which is a 4nm TSMC SoC. It also has an Arm Mali-G720 MC7 GPU to handle graphics. In day-to-day tasks such as browsing, social media, messaging, and video streaming, the POCO X7 Pro performs effortlessly. Switching between apps is swift, thanks to the 8GB of RAM, which handles multitasking without noticeable lag Overall, the X7 Pro offers smooth performance across gaming and multitasking.

You are getting two variants:

  • 8 GB LPDDR5x RAM + 256GB UFS 4.0 Storage
  • 12 GB LPDDR5x RAM + 256GB UFS 4.0 Storage

Benchmark scores place the POCO X7 Pro competitively in its segment. AnTuTu and Geekbench results show that the phone performs on par with or better than other mid-range devices.

POCO X7 Pro Benchmarks

This phone also has a really impressive gaming performance. I played several games including BGMI and COD at high graphics settings and was getting stable frame rates. It also handles thermals well and the phone doesn’t heat even during long gaming sessions.

POXO X7 Pro comes with HyperOS 2 out of the box. It comes with several bloatware, but you can uninstall these useless apps if you want. The UI offers tons of customization options, but the most notable is the integration of AI features. The AI subtitles feature provides subtitles for videos playing on the phone. Use the AI interpreter for quick voice translation. Gallery app also has AI features to erase objects from photos, remove reflections, change the sky, and expand photos. However, some AI features may need an active internet connection to work properly. POCO also promises 3 years of Android updates and 4 years of security patches for long-term reliability.

Camera

The phone has a dual camera setup that includes a 50MP primary camera with Sony LYT-600 sensor OIS and EIS. It also has an 8MP ultra-wide lens. For selfies, it has a 20MP front camera.

Images are crisp and full of detail, with no noticeable noise in the shadows or highlights. The HDR processing works well to balance bright skies and darker subjects. While the primary camera handles low-light conditions relatively well, it tends to soften details in very dim environments. Night mode improves the situation by enhancing brightness and reducing noise

The selfie camera also captures sharp, detailed, and natural-looking selfies. The results are impressive, particularly in well-lit environments. It also performs well in low light with some visible noise and slight softening in dim environments. The portrait mode on the selfie camera works well, with the ability to blur the background effectively. The edge detection is fairly accurate, though some users may notice slight inconsistencies in challenging lighting.

Now If I talk about video recording capabilities, the rear camera can record up to 4K 60fps videos and you also have HDR video recording option. You get good details and stable recordings. Front camera recording is limited to 1080p 30fps and it is sufficient for video calls and good quality vlogs. It also has good stabilization for smooth video recording from the front camera. The camera app also has a built-in teleprompter to help video creators. There’s also a director mode that provides pro controls for video recording. Something video creators will love to try.

Connectivity & Battery

POCO X7 Pro supports dual 5G SIMs, making it future-ready. It also has Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.3 support. NFC support is also there for contactless payments and quick pairing with compatible devices.

The smartphone packs a 6,550mAh silicon-carbon battery that can easily offer two days of battery backup in normal usage and more than a day of backup even if you use it heavily. It supports 90W fast charging and the good thing is that you get the adapter in the box. It charges to 38% in just 15 minutes and reaches to 80% in 35 minutes. The full charge takes around 44 minutes. That’s impressive. Not only does the phone offer a long battery life, it charges quickly giving you peace of mind.

Wrap Up

POCO X7 Pro is a powerhouse in the mid-range segment. It is a well-rounded device that offers good design, excellent display, powerful performance, long battery life, and capable camera setup. At less than Rs. 30,000, this phone easily beats competitors like the Motorola Edge 50 and OnePlus Nord 4 in terms of performance.

Overall, the POCO X7 Pro is a solid contender in the mid-range segment for those who prioritise performance and battery life.
