Mobiistar is the new brand making its debut in the Indian market. It launched two budget selfie phones to mark its entry. I tested the Mobiistar XQ Dual and used it for over 20 days before writing this review. if you are thinking to buy that phone, read the Mobiistar XQ Dual Review to know whether it is worth to buy or not.

Price: 7999 – Buy Here

Mobiistar XQ Dual comes with a solid build. Even if design has nothing to excite, it is acceptable for a budget phone. Above the display, the phone has LED notification, earpiece, dual front camera and front LED flash. Below the display, it has three capacitive non-backlit touch keys. The volume rocker is on the left and power button along with SIM slot is at the right. The top side has 3.5 mm headphone jack and base side has speaker along with micro USB port. You see two speaker vents but the speaker is only located behind the one.

Backside got rear camera with LED flash at top left side. The fingerprint sensor is located at the top center of the back panel. The phone has curves at edges that makes it easy to hold. It has metal build with plastic at top and bottom of the back.

The phone has 5.5 inch Full HD IPS display offering 1920×1080 pixels resolution. I appreciate Mobiistar for considering Full HD display in this price segment. The display offers good experience. Viewing angles are good and it even works fine under direct sunlight. The display also has Asahi DragonTrail toughness glass protection to protect it from scratches.

The phone runs on Android 7.1.2 Nougat out of the box with its own custom launcher at the top of it.  The icons of the UI has been lifted from older generation of iOS. It comes with Flipkart app as bloatware because it is the official sales partner of Mobiistar in country. There is also a Freezer app to speed up the phone and save power.

One good feature on this phone is its Anti-theft feature. Under this feature, it has several options to ensure you do not lose your phone. One cannot shut down this phone until he/she knows the password. When the battery is low, it will update you its location, so you know where it was switched off. After it is again switched on, the phone will be forcefully connected to the Internet to make sure you have access to its location.

Here, the company could offer Android 8.0 Oreo. It has also not confirmed when the phone will get Oreo upgrade.

The phone is powered by octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor clocked at 1.4GHz. It also has 3GB RAM. Even if the Snapdragon 430 is outdated, it doesn’t disappoint. The performance of the phone is fine and it handles day to day task easily. It has Adreno 505 that also perform well. You can enjoy entry level and mid level games. Heavy games take considerable time in loading and experience was not much smooth but you can still pay many heavy games on medium settings.

Here is the benchmark score.

It comes with 32 GB of storage where you get 27GB of free storage. Storage is also expandable up to 128GB but the phone has hybrid dual SIM so you can either use dual Sim or expand storage.

Mobiistar XQ Dual

The phone comes with 13 megapixels rear camera with f/2.0 aperture and LED flash. It also comes with dual front camera with 13 megapixels primary sensor having f/2.0 aperture and 8-megapixel sensor having 120-degree wide-angle lens and f/2.2 aperture. The camera app of the phone is also inspired by the camera app of iOS. Surprisingly, it even offers a PRO mode for rear camera. There are also several camera effects.

The Rear camera performance is fine and it captures good colors. Even if the level of details is not much, it is fine considering the price of the phone.

The phone focuses on offering good selfies in low price segment. It captures decent selfies. The secondary camera captures wide-angle selfies. The front camera flash helps in capturing decent selfies even in low light.

The phone also has a fingerprint sensor on the back. It is easy to reach and works well. It quickly unlocks your phone. You can add up to 5 fingerprints.

It is a dual SIM phone and both SIMs support 4G. At a time, only one SIM can be used at 4G network while other go on 3G. Other connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS and USB OTG support. All these connectivity options work well.

Mobiistar XQ Dual packs a 3000 mAh battery that doesn’t perform well. Getting a full day usage is hard until you have moderate usage. The phone features Smart Power Saving and Ultra Power Saving battery modes for improving the battery performance. The battery of the phone takes little over 2 hours in charging from 0 to 100%.

Final Verdict

Mobiistar XQ Dual is a good first attempt for one of the biggest smartphone market. People in India like to capture selfies a lot, hence Mobiistar has considered a selfie-focused phone in budget segment to reach larger consumer base. It is not the best in class, but one of the best to consider if you like to capture selfies. It has a dual front camera for good selfies in the budget segment. Performance of the phone is also fine.
