Chinese brand LeEco jumped in Indian market with two phones LeEco Le Max and LeEco Le 1S. LeEco Le 1S has already broken various records in flash sales and it indicated how Indian consumers are interested in this new smartphone player. They sold 70000 units in just 2 seconds in the first sale. If you are still waiting to buy, you can read this review and check if this phone is worth or just a hype.

LeEco Le 1S Review

Design

The design is the main attraction of this phone. In the price of just Rs. 10999, the company is offering a phone with aluminium frame unibody design. It looks a premium phone with great comfort in hand. The metallic back also features a fingerprint sensor with glass finish to make it more impressive.

Front side is slick with black glass around the display. Three capacitive touch buttons below the display but hidden until you wake up the device. 5 megapixels front camera, Notification LED and proximity sensor are above the display.

The top side of the phone contains 3.5 mm audio port with infrared blaster along with antenna bands. At the below side, you will see a speaker, primary microphone, USB Type-C and antenna bands. The right side holds volume rockers and power button. SIM card tray is on the left side. The metal band running around the sides has chamfered edges to make its look impressive.

Coming to the back, it features 13 megapixels camera sensor with LED flash and a secondary microphone for noise cancellation. Fingerprint sensor with glass finish is also there. Just below it, you see a Letv branding. LeEco was originally called as Letv before it rebrands itself last month.

This was the physical design overview. Buttons got right placing to make it easier to reach. Gold metal finish variant is only available on Flipkart and this is what I am holding. The grip of this phone is decent. The design of the phone is very premium and for this price, it is a surprising offering.

Weight of the phone is 169 grams but it does not feel heavy.

Display

It features a 5.5 inch full HD display. Display of this phone is good. The display is vivid and sharp. Viewing angles of this phone is also impressive. You will have no problem in playing any kind of HD, Full HD or 4K videos. But display, could be brighter. This is the reason, Sunlight legibility is just fine.

User Interface

LeEco Le 1S runs on Android 5.0.2 with EUI version 5.5 on top of it. This UI has overhauled the Android in terms of looks to make it better and also added few interesting features. Swiping down on display will open notifications but it doesn’t offer quick settings here. Quick settings have been moved to multi-tasking menu. You can also sort these quick settings for easier access.

LeEco UI

You have access to various themes, wallpapers and widgets. No app drawer, so apps are available on different screens. Very few bloatware are in this UI. File manager is also available to access files quickly. UI is very good in terms of looks and performance both.

Performance

LeEco Le 1S is powered by a 2.2GHz octa-core MediaTek Helio X10 processor with 3 GB RAM and PowerVR G6200 GPU. The overall performance of this phone is awesome. Even if you are trying multi-tasking with many apps, no lag was spotted.

The gaming performance of this phone is impressive. Considering the price of the phone, it delivers more than one can expect. Even after long gaming, the device becomes warmer but does not become too hot.

Benchmarking scores are also high and confirm high performance of the device.

32 GB Internal storage is there but no option to expand the storage. This could be a disappointment. Even if the device supports OTG, it has USB Type-C port. So, you need to buy a USB Type C pen drive.

Fingerprint sensor and IR Blaster

The fingerprint sensor of this phone is good and can recognize your finger from any direction. But it misses recognition sometimes. You will get 80% success ratio. The fingerprint sensor is also very cool in looks with mirror finishing.

IR Blaster is also there for controlling your TV.

Camera

It has 13 megapixels rear camera with LED flash and a 5 megapixels front camera. Camera performance in day light is pretty awesome. Even if colors are not natural but still, pics taken in daylight were good. Front camera performance is daylight is also good. I was not happy with the low-light performance. It could be better. Even indoor photography is also not good.

leEco Le 1s

Camera app is simple with very few modes. Front camera opens in beauty mode by default and there is no option to turn it off or change anything in beauty mode. You only have slo-mo and pano camera modes. No manual controls for ISO, White balance or exposure.

Rear camera of this phone can record up to 4K videos while front camera can record full HD videos.

Here are few samples taken from the camera of LeEco Le 1S.

Sound and Multimedia experience

It has speaker below side which is very loud and clear. While in gaming, you could block speaker but the overall experience is awesome. In-call sound is also very good. No earphones in the box, so you will have to buy it separately. LeEco earphones are pretty impressive but you will have to wait for its availability.

Connectivity

This phone supports various connectivity options including 4G/LTE, 3G, Wi-Fi 802.11, a/ac/b/g/n/n 5GHz, GPS with A-GPS, Bluetooth v4.0, NFC, DLNA and USB Type-C. I don’t think you would expect anything more. Only USB Type-C could be a disappointment for few.

Battery

It is packed with 3000 mAH battery with support to fast charging. Battery charges very quickly with charger provided within the box. But quick charging also increases the temperature of the device while charging. This phone can be fully charged in around 1 hour. You get around a day battery life with average usage. But if you get too many calls and notifications, you will not be satisfied with its battery performance. Gaming costs too much battery.

Few battery modes are also there which can reduce the battery usage by apps and improve the performance.

Final Verdict

LeEco Le 1S is a premium looking phone packed with impressive hardware. The overall performance of this phone is impressive with good multitasking and gaming. The only camera of this phone is not as per our expectations. The battery of this phone is also average performance. But considering the price point, this phone is the best deal. If you are looking for a good camera phone, you should go with another alternate. But for a good phone in this price, LeEco Le 1S is the best deal.
