Infinix Zero Flip Review: A Surprisingly Capable Mid-Range Foldable

A few days back, Infinix launched its first flip phone Infinix Zero Flip in India. This phone is priced at Rs. 50000, making it one of the most affordable flip phones in the country. I have been using Infinix ZERO Flip for a few days and here’s the detailed review of Infinix ZERO Flip review for people who are thinking of buying this phone.

Infinix ZERO Flip is shipped with a 70W charger, USB-C cable, a two-piece case for this foldable phone, SIM ejector PIN, and user manual.

Infinix Zero Flip Review

Infinix Zero Flip comes with a premium design and compact form factor. So, it is relatively easy to carry and use. The back panel has a sand-like texture with a matte finish on the lower half. The upper half features a Dual camera setup, LED flash, and cover screen. The phone features a metal frame and a metal cover on the hinge. The hinge has an engraved Infinix logo and micro-crystals that look good. Infinix claims that the hinge had been tested for the 4,00,000-fold test. Although I can’t verify the claims the hinge feels fine and durable. After using it for a few days, I can see the crease at the center and can also feel it while swiping in the area. You can use the phone at various folding angles depending on your use. When you fold the phone, there’s no gap between panels and it adds to its premium appeal.

On the right edge, it has volume rockers and a side button. The side button also has a fingerprint sensor embedded in it. The base side has a SIM card tray, USB-C button, and speaker grill.

When the phone folded. you can use the 3.64-inch cover screen to access important apps and notifications. After unfolding it, it reveals a 6.9-inch large display with uniform bezels. At the top, it has a hole-punch for the selfie camera.

The phone measures 165.8 x 73.8 x 7.64 mm when unfolded and 87.5 x 73.4 x 16 mm when folded. It weighs 195 g and doesn’t feel bulky. While the device feels solid and well-built, the lack of an IP rating for water and dust resistance is a drawback.

Infinix Zero Flip seems a nice effort to provide a premium experience at an affordable price.

The phone has a 6.9-inch Foldable LTPO AMOLED primary display when unfolded. The display offers a large viewing area for content consumption. It has a 21:9 aspect ratio, slightly wider than the traditional 20:9 aspect ratio commonly found in smartphones. The 120Hz refresh rate provides a smoother and more responsive scrolling experience. The display has a peak brightness of 1400 nits. It is not as bright as in other phones of this price segment, but the display is bright enough to be used outdoors. However, it struggles under direct sunlight.

The video viewing experience of the phone is good and the display has good viewing angles. The display also supports Widevine L1 certification but doesn’t support HDR on Netflix. If you watch the display from the side, the crease will be visible above the content and sometimes it interrupts the experience when certain colors are in the video. But it matters much.

The cover display is an AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate. The cover display also has a similar blitheness and performs almost the same. It provides access to notifications apps without opening the phone. You can do most of the things without opening the phone. For example, access notifications, make or receive calls, toggle quick settings, access cameras, access messaging apps, and even YouTube. Not all apps are optimized for the cover display, but you will see a miniature version of the app that’s not optimized for the cover display. It also shows a warning before opening the app that’s not optimized for this smaller screen.

The phone comes with XOS14 based on Android 14 out of the box. The UI has a dedicated Folding Screen Zone where you can customize the folding phone experience. It lets you customize the cover screen and Cover screen apps. You can also enable an Always-on display for the cover screen and add a cute pet to make the cover screen and primary screen even more beautiful.

Infinix Zero Flip review

Infinix Zero Flip packs a Dimensity 8020 SoC that’s made mainly for powerful mid-range phones. This is also a year-old chipset and the company could have gone with a better choice. Don’t directly compare ZERo Flip with other phones in this price segment. Because the folding design adds to the cost, so Infinix had to compromise on performance to control the price. Dimensity 8020 SoC is powerful enough to provide a smooth performance in most cases. The phone handles day-to-day tasks well and I never felt any issues during regular usage of the phone.

Talking about gaming, you can enjoy high-end games like Call of Duty: Mobile, and Asphalt 9: Legends on the phone. The SoC handles these games at medium to high settings with consistent frame rates. I recommend medium settings for getting good frame rates and a lag-free experience. The device heats up significantly when I play games or record videos for an extended period. In most cases, the temperature remains under control.

Here are the benchmark scores.

Infinix Zero Flip review

Infinix ZERO Flip features a dual camera setup with 50 megapixels primary camera and a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera. The camera app is feature-rich. It has several modes to make photography interesting. You also get Pro mode to control camera options such as aperture, white balance, ISO, and focus. If you are into photography, you will love this feature. There’s a dual-mode that lets you capture videos from both rear and front cameras at the same time. There’s also GoPro integration to manage your GoPro and footage directly from the phone. I don’t have a GoPro, so I couldn’t test this feature.

The camera setup looks good for a flip phone. It isn’t as good as other phones in this segment, but the camera offers good results. Photos offer natural colors with a good dynamic range. It uses AI that takes a few seconds to provide post-process images, but the results are good. The camera also handles portrait shots well. The best thing is that you can also easily capture selfies by using the rear camera and cover display as a viewfinder. The camera also has a night mode that uses long exposures to capture more light and reduce noise in low-light conditions. It also works well if the environment is clean.

The ultrawide camera also captures decent photos, but the colors look on the warmer side and its saturation is also not as good as in the primary camera.

The Selfie camera performs well in broad daylight and good lighting conditions. It captures good colors and the dynamic range seems well. The camera isn’t that good in low light but still captures good photos.

The camera also records good videos making it good for content creation and vlogging. It can record 4K 30fps videos from the rear camera and stabilization is good. It records good-quality videos with nice audio. The front camera recording can max up to 4K@60fps and front camera videos are also impressive. The camera app also has a dedicated vlog section that has several templates for shooting content for social media. It also provides tips for shooting videos, so you can record better videos for social media.

The fingerprint sensor is embedded into the side button and it works really well. Just a touch and it quickly unlocks the phone. Face Unlock feature is also there to quickly unlock the phone. If there’s enough light to detect your face, it quickly unlocks the phone.

It has a stereo speakers setup that is good and loud enough for watching movies and videos without earphones. The sound quality is also fine. It also provides quality music streaming over Bluetooth earphones.

Infinix Zero Flip packs a large 4,720mAh battery. The phone supports 70W fast charging and is shipped with a 70W charger. It takes around 20 minutes to reach from 0% to 50% and 50 minutes to reach 100%. The phone lacks wireless charging support that’s common in phones of this price segment.

Wrap Up

Infinix ZERO Flip is a good foldable smartphone offering a premium design and performance at an affordable price. It has a sturdy design with flat edges and a large cover display. The phone also delivers good performance and a nice camera setup.

For people who want a foldable phone experience without breaking the bank, Infinix ZERO Flip is a good option. However, you can get a better normal phone with even better powerful performance and a better camera. But you need to understand that a foldable phone cannot offer the durability of a normal phone. The lack of IP rating is also a downside of this phone.

ProsCons
  • Good design
  • Large cover display
  • Capable camera setup
  • Long battery life
  • No IP Rating
  • No wireless charging support
