Vivo V3 Review : Impressive but bit overpriced

Vivo V3

Vivo is one of the fastest growing companies in India. It is also pushing a large amount of money in advertising in the country. It sponsored IPL 2016 and roped Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh as its brand ambassador. It has already opened a manufacturing plant in India to manufacture phones in the country. Vivo V3 comes with “made in India” tag. Vivo V3 is a good looking device priced around 16000 Rs. I have been using it as the primary device for a few weeks and here is our detailed review of Vivo V3.

Vivo V3 Review

Design

Vivo V3 is a smaller with the 5-inch display. Due to small in size, this phone is very comfortable in hands and person even with small palms can easily use it. This phone carries metal build which looks very premium. it also has a golden thin frame around the edge which makes it different than other similar looking phones with the metal design.

It has the 5-inch display. Below the display, it has 3 capacitive touch buttons. The phone comes with a tempered glass protection at the top. Above the display, you see VIVO branding, front camera, proximity sensor, and notification LED.

Right edge contains a power button and volume rocker keys. Button placing is fine and easy to reach. Speaker placing is at the below side which is good. At least, the sound will not be blocked if you out of the phone on bed or table. MicroUSB port for charging and data syncing is also along with the speaker.

At top edge, it has 3.5 mm audio port and a microSD card slot. Generally, meta build phones carry Hybrid slots, this phone does not restrict you in any way. You can use dual SIM and microSD card at the same time. At left edge, it has SIM card try.

Back panel contains rear camera at top-left side with LED flash below rear camera. It has fingerprint sensor which is Squircle in shape.

In terms of design, this phone is beautiful. If you think 5.5-inch is large, this phone carries perfect size and design for you. Due to light in weight, it also does not add much extra weight in your pocket.

Display

On paper display seems disappointing because smartphones priced around Rs. 10000 now come with full HD display, but the display of this phone performs. The display is bright and offers good viewing angles. But when I checked the same photo in this phone and in other similar priced phones, I found that sharpness was not good enough. Without comparison, you will be satisfied with this display.

Vivo V3 Display

The display is HD with 720 x 1280 pixels which convert into 294 PPI pixel density. While few may ask for full HD display, this is also fine. It does not seem to come with Gorilla Glass or another scratch resistant protection. So, the company is offering a default tempered glass protection. But this protection is not enough. It easily attracts scratches. You can see this condition of phone’s display protection.

Display performs very well in outdoor conditions. Even if you are not using it on full brightness, you can still use it in outdoor comfortably.

Performance, Memory, and Storage

Vivo V3 is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 616 processor with Adreno 405 GPU and 3 GB RAM. With this much of RAM, multi-tasking is good.

Benchmarking scores are not pretty good here. It just scored around 39395 on Antutu and 2787 on Geekbench multi-core.

The gaming performance of this impresses. It is so smooth in gaming that you will enjoy gaming for the even longer time without any issue. As the phone got metal build, you will see the temperature rise after long gaming. But, company optimized this device good enough to keep the temperature under control.

It has 32 GB internal storage from which you get around 22 GB free space. You can also add microSD card to expand storage up to 32 GB. Apps by default go into internal storage, and you can also move apps to external SD card. OTG support is also there but you need to enable it before you use. If you are not using OTG, it will automatically disable after 5 minutes.

Software

Vivo V3 comes with FunTouch OS 2.5 based on Android 5.1 Lollipop. It offers customized look with good performance. I hardly saw any UI related lags. But, this UI has something not very similar to stock Android. So, few options are different and feel odd. Swiping from top to bottom opens only notifications. For opening quick settings, you will have to swipe from bottom to up. Same quick settings panel shows running processes.

Like other popular ROM, it also does not come with app drawer. So, all apps icons are on different screens. There are only a few third-party apps in this phone including EasyShare, Facebook, WhatsApp, and WeChat.

Fingerprint Sensor

The company claims that fingerprint sensor is one of the fastest available. It also claims that fingerprint sensor can unlock your phone in just 0.2 seconds. I also found this phone’s fingerprint sensor fast. It is very fast unlocks devices quickly with good success ratio. You can add up to 5 different fingerprint profiles.

Fingerprint sensor can also be used to lock your private space on the phone.

Vivo V3

Camera

The camera is the key thing of this phone company advertises. It has a 13-megapixels rear camera with LED Flash and an 8-megapixels front camera. The rear camera can also record full HD videos. I am missing 4K recording.

Vivo V3 Camera

The camera app is clean with HDR, Panorama, Night and PPT modes. You also have professional mode if you want manual control on the camera. You also get various camera effects to use while capturing photos. It also allows you to set a watermark for photos you capture with this phone.

Both cameras perform well. But at this price, I was expecting something better. At least from the front camera which is of 8-megapixels. I tested it in both low-light and good-light conditions. Both rear and front camera can use the beauty mode. So, photos captured with the rear camera also beautifies the faces. Photos captured offer good details. I faced issues in focusing sometimes but it was only when I was trying to capture an object from a very close distance. So, Micro photography can be an issue.

Check these camera samples and decide yourself.

Connectivity and Battery

Vivo V3 is a dual SIM phone. It supports 4G, 3G, Wi-FI, Bluetooth, microUSB and GPS connectivity options. All these options perform really well. Sound output is also loud and clear. In-call audio is very clear. No issues in network signals.

The battery is also good on this phone. As the phone comes with the smaller display, so size is also small and less scope for the large battery. It is packed with 2550 mAh battery which is good enough for a phone of this configuration. While battery backup depends on the usage, you will easily see a full day backup on mixed usage. On heavy usage like playing high-end games on full brightness or watching full HD videos continuously, you will see around 7 hours of battery backup.

It takes less than 3 hours in fully charging the device with wall charger.

Vivo V3

Final Words

ViVo V3 is a good phone with the premium attractive design and impressive performance. The fingerprint sensor is another thing that impresses with its detection speed and accuracy. Considering the market competition and other phones of same price segment, the company can consider giving a price cut to this phone to stand into the competition. Price is the only thing which seems to be higher for what is being offered.
