What is FPS in gaming?
If you are new to gaming and are confused with the term “FPS”, this article is for you. In this article, I will explain why is FPS and why it gets importance in gaming. So, you will understand FPS meaning in a better way,
What Is FPS?
The acronym “FPS” stands for “Frames Per Second” and is used to denote how many frames your graphics card can render each second on the display or how many frames your monitor can display each second. The better a graphics card is, the better FPS it can render and the better refresh rate of the monitor is, the better frames it can display per second.
Why does frame rate matter?
The higher FPS you get, the smoother gameplay will be. FPS improves overall visual experience and animations. You will also be able to react more swiftly to the game and it will certainly improve your performance.
You need a good graphics card and a good monitor to get the advantage of a good FPS. If your graphics card can render 300 FPS but the monitor has just a 60Hz refresh rate, there won’t be any benefit of GPU power. Your monitor is still displaying just 60 frames per second. This is the reason, most gamers prefer a monitor with 144Hz or a higher refresh rate. Professional gamers play on a monitor with a 240Hz refresh rate.
