What is EA Play: Plans, Games, and Benefits

Gaming subscriptions are everywhere now. But not all of them offer the same value. EA Play is one of the more focused options in this space. It is built around games from Electronic Arts, one of the biggest publishers in the industry. If you are thinking about subscribing, this guide will help you understand what you actually get and whether it is worth it.

What is EA Play?

EA Play is a subscription service that gives you access to a collection of EA games, early trials for new releases, and some extra member benefits. It is available on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC through platforms like Steam and the EA app.

Unlike broader services, EA Play focuses only on EA titles. That is both its biggest strength and its biggest limitation.

Plans and pricing

EA Play comes in two main tiers. The standard EA Play plan is available on all platforms. It is the cheaper option and gives access to a library of games, early trials, and discounts.

EA Play Pro is only available on PC. This is the premium tier and includes full access to new EA games at launch, including deluxe editions.

Pricing varies by region, but in India, EA Play is usually quite affordable compared to other subscriptions.

EA Play Subscription Plans

Plan TierRegionMonthly PriceAnnual PriceBest For
EA Play (Standard)India₹399₹2,499Casual gamers on Console & PC
USA$5.99$39.99
EA Play Pro (Premium)India₹1,299₹8,499Hardcore PC gamers (Day 1 Access)
USA$16.49$119.99

What games do you get

The core of EA Play is “The Play List.” This is a collection of games that you can download and play as long as your subscription is active. Popular titles include games from:

  • Need for Speed
  • Battlefield series
  • The Sims 4
  • FIFA series (now replaced by EA Sports FC)

These are not small indie titles. Many are big-budget games, but they are usually added months after launch. That means you will not always get the latest games immediately unless you are using EA Play Pro.

Early access and trials

One of the most useful features is early access. With EA Play, you can try new games before release for up to 10 hours. This is a full game trial, not a demo. Your progress carries over if you decide to buy the game later.

This is useful if you are unsure about a new release. You can test performance, gameplay, and overall experience before spending full price.

Member benefits

EA Play also includes some smaller perks that can still be useful.

You get:

  • Around 10 percent discount on EA digital purchases
  • In-game rewards and bonuses
  • Occasional exclusive content

These benefits are not the main reason to subscribe, but they do add extra value over time.

EA Play vs other subscriptions

EA Play is limited and also cheaper. Unlike Game Pass which offers a much larger library with games from multiple publishers. In fact, EA Play is already included with Game Pass Ultimate. That makes Game Pass a better deal for most users. Compared to PlayStation Plus, EA Play again feels more focused but less diverse.

Is EA Play worth it

This depends on what kind of gamer you are. If you play a lot of EA games, especially sports titles, EA Play is a great deal. Even one or two games can justify the yearly price. If you are someone who plays a variety of genres from different publishers, this may not be enough. The library is limited compared to bigger services.

EA Play Pro makes sense only if you want to play new EA games at launch without buying them individually.

It is important to understand that EA Play is not trying to compete directly with big platforms. Instead, it targets a specific audience, mainly fans of EA games. The bigger issue is how the gaming industry is moving. With so many subscriptions now, users are starting to choose only one or two main services. In that situation, EA Play often becomes an add-on rather than a primary choice.

Still, if you enjoy EA’s lineup, this is one of the easiest subscriptions to recommend. It is simple, affordable, and delivers exactly what it promises.

Electronic Arts does not regularly share updated subscriber numbers for EA Play like some other companies do. Most of the available data is from earnings calls and older reports. Still, we can piece together a fairly clear picture. EA Play had over 6.5 million paying subscribers around late 2020. After being bundled with Xbox Game Pass, the service reached nearly 13 million users (not all paying directly) by early 2021.

Subscribers are those people who are directly paying for EA Play. However, total users also includes people who also access EA Play via Game Pass.

EA has not shared updated EA Play subscriber numbers in recent years. So, I cannot say how many people directly pay to EA and how many access it via Game Pass. Some estimates suggest the service still has around 6 to 7 million direct subscribers, but these are not officially confirmed numbers
